Cookie Policy

This policy explains what cookies this website sets, what they are for, and how you can change your mind about them. It sits alongside our Privacy Policy, which covers personal data more broadly.

Nothing on this site is set until you accept it. We set no analytics cookies unless you choose Accept on the cookie banner. If you reject, or ignore the banner entirely, no cookie is written to your device by us or by Google. We set no advertising cookies at all.

What cookies are

A cookie is a small text file a website asks your browser to store on your device. It can be read back on later visits, which is what lets a site recognise a returning browser. Similar technologies, such as local storage, do much the same job in a different place; where we use one of those, it is listed below with the cookies.

Cookies are described as first-party when the site you are visiting sets them, and third-party when another company does through content embedded in the page.

What this site sets

Before you choose: your consent choice

One entry, and the only thing stored before you have made a choice. It exists because of the choice itself, so it is exempt from the consent requirement.

  • eb-consent-v1 (local storage, first-party). Records whether you accepted or rejected analytics cookies, so the banner does not ask you on every page. Stays until you clear it below, or clear your browser storage. This is local storage rather than a cookie, so it is never sent to our server, and we could not read it from another site even if we wanted to.

After you accept: analytics

We use Google Analytics 4, loaded through Google Tag Manager, to understand how people find and use the site: which pages get read, which links get clicked, and roughly where in the world visitors are. We use it to decide what to write and what to fix. We do not use it to identify you personally, and we do not use it for advertising.

These are set by Google as a third party, and only once you have accepted:

  • _ga (cookie, google.com). Distinguishes one browser from another so a repeat visit is not counted as a new person. Expires 2 years after it is set or last updated.
  • _ga_ZD4VVW5980 (cookie, google.com). Keeps the state of the current visit, so a single session is not counted as several. Expires 2 years after it is set or last updated.

Google Tag Manager, which loads the analytics tag, sets no cookies of its own. Google acts as our processor for analytics data. Google is a US company and may process this data outside the UK; where it does, that transfer relies on the UK extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and Google's standard contractual clauses. Google publishes its own account of how it uses this data at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

What this site does not set

Some things you might expect to find here are genuinely absent, so we would rather say so than leave you guessing:

  • No advertising or retargeting cookies. We are not running ads at the moment and load no advertising pixel. If that changes, this page will say so before it does, and the banner will ask you again.
  • No accounts, so no login cookies. There is nothing on this site to log in to.
  • Video without tracking. The videos on this site are hosted by Vimeo and loaded with Do Not Track switched on, so Vimeo does not set tracking cookies or build a profile from your visit.
  • Nothing from the enquiry form. Submitting an enquiry sends us your answers and nothing else. The form sets no cookie and starts no session.

One thing that is not a cookie but is worth knowing: our typefaces are served by Google Fonts. Loading them discloses your IP address to Google, as fetching any file from another company's server does. Google states that it sets no cookies for font requests.

Changing your mind

You can withdraw your consent at any time, and it takes effect immediately. Use the control at the bottom of this page.

Withdrawing stops anything further being set, but it does not delete cookies already on your device. To remove those, and to control cookies generally, use your browser's own settings: they are usually under Privacy, and every major browser can block cookies, delete existing ones, or clear everything when you close it. Blocking all cookies will not stop you using this site, since none of it depends on them.

You can also opt out of Google Analytics everywhere, on every site, with Google's browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

Changes to this policy

If we add anything that sets a cookie, this page is updated before it goes live and the banner asks you again. The date at the top tells you when it last changed.
